“Having a proper financial plan helps you avoid the risks you see coming—and the ones you don’t. Anything else is just a gamble.”
My passion for this work comes from my own experiences. Growing up in Vietnam, my father was a business owner, and I saw him lose everything because he lacked financial guidance. That loss changed our family’s life in a big way, and it left a lasting impact on me. I knew I wanted to help others avoid that kind of hardship.
When I arrived in Canada in 2003, I felt the sting of financial difficulty once again when faced with an overwhelming financial system. Things like opening a bank account or starting an RRSP felt like huge hurdles. That’s why, for me, financial planning is about helping people feel secure and confident about their future.
I enjoy guiding corporate executives and employees through the sometimes-confusing world of finance through seminars, webinars, or one-on-one conversations. Whether it’s helping people retire comfortably, save for their child’s education, or simply know they’re making smart investment decisions, I love being able to offer them peace of mind because I know how important it is.
Ironically, my first taste of how employer-led financial guidance can change a life came with my first job. I was a dental assistant and learned from my employer how to save and manage money. I used those savings to study finance here in Canada, where I achieved successive roles as a Bank Teller, Personal Banker, Assistant Manager, and then Senior Wealth Advisor. I joined CWB Wealth in 2023, entering my latest role as Senior Manager and Client Lead, Financial Education and Employer Services.
My career spans more than 15 years, with almost a decade in wealth management. I studied Finance and Foreign Economic Relations at the College of Foreign Economic Relations in Vietnam. My industry designations include Personal Financial Planning (PFP), CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®), Fellow of CSI (FCSI) and Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®). I’ve been consulted as a financial planning subject matter expert for various projects with the Canadian Securities Institute, and acted as Vice Chair on their PFP exam review committee. I also contributed CFP exam items for Financial Planning Canada, to help ensure the content remains relevant for wealth management professionals working with the public.
